Afternoons with the boys and some fun quotes

I ran across an Oscar Wilde quote online, then found myself mired in a whole slew of them. So many good ones, and we can all relate to them in several different ways. I suppose the multi-faceted applications of a quote are what make it memorable or worth repeating. All quotes in this post are by Oscar Wilde.

“Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.”

Jack picked out three-berry jello at the store. They were very excited, since we haven’t had it for a while.

“The only thing to do with good advice is pass it on. It is never any use to oneself.”

“A little sincerity is a dangerous thing, and a great deal of it is absolutely fatal.”

“True friends stab you in the front.”

“Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.”

“Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.”

“Morality is simply the attitude we adopt towards people whom we personally dislike.”

“A gentleman is one who never hurts anyone’s feelings unintentionally.”

“Those who find ugly meanings in beautiful things are corrupt without being charming. This is a fault. Those who find beautiful meanings in beautiful things are the cultivated. For these there is hope. They are the elect to whom beautiful things mean only Beauty. There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written, or badly written. That is all.”

The belts are coming along.. I’ve promised I’ll do my part on them before Sunday so they can wear them to church.

“The old believe everything, the middle-aged suspect everything, the young know everything.”

“Quotation is a serviceable substitute for wit.” Touche!

“To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance.”

“Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.”

Here’s Jack, edging his belt.

“It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will be when you can’t help it.”

Oiling his belt in a very serious manner…

“The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame.”

Kai’s tooling, completed.

“I am not young enough to know everything.” – Ha ha, touche again.

The blocks have come out again, and the boys have gotten extremely inventive with them.

“Experience is merely the name men gave to their mistakes.”

“One should never trust a woman who tells one her real age. A woman who would tell one that would tell one anything.” Oh dear.

Here’s Rollie’s “bell”.

“Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.”

As you can see, you must strike the bell with a giant block. :-/

“We are each our own devil, and we make this world our hell.”

“Humanity takes itself too seriously. It is the world’s original sin. If the cave-man had known how to laugh, History would have been different.”

“Nothing can cure the soul but the senses, just as nothing can cure the senses but the soul.”

I hope the quotes, pictures, and picture commentary all mixed together weren’t too dizzying.
